Not only fans, but many former cricketers believe it is time for the selectors to remove him as T20I captain and replace him with someone like Hardik Pandya.
Many legendary Indian cricketers, from Sunil Gavaskar to Harbhajan Singh, have expressed their desire to see a change in leadership in the shortest format of the game and proposed the Baroda allrounder’s name for the role.
Former India head coach Ravi Shastri has joined that league. Without criticising Rohit, the former India allrounder stated that given the amount of cricket played these days, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to hand over T20I captaincy to someone else.
There is no harm in having a new captain for T20 cricket. Because the volume of cricket is such, it will never be easy for one player to play all three formats of the game, Shastri said before the first T20I between India and New Zealand.

If Rohit is already leading in Tests and One-Day Internationals, there is no harm in identifying a new T20I captain, and if his name is Hardik Pandya, so be it, the former India allrounder added.
Shastri was in the dressing room when Hardik Pandya made his debut for India, and he believes that giving him full-time captaincy will benefit both him and Rohit Sharma.
Following India’s disappointing campaign, the pressure is mounting on the selectors to make some difficult decisions. According to some media reports, the selectors are already planning to remove Rohit from the T20I captaincy.
