It was a fantastic year for me, and I’m looking forward to seeing similar results in 2022. Afridi described the wicket of India opener KL Rahul as his most prized T20 World Cup scalp. There was a little swing, and we knew we could get Rohit early on, said the umpire, but the ball that dismissed Rahul surprised me. The 21-year-old pacer, who had great success in all three formats in 2021, including a magical spell against India, said senior teammate Shoaib Malik advised him before he bowled KL Rahul.
I didn’t expect the ball to do so much when it got through KL Rahul’s defense. It was a significant wicket for me. He also stated that in order to get the wickets of quality batsmen like Rohit Sharma or Babar Azam in international cricket, one needed to produce magic balls.
It was hugely satisfying for me later to take Kohli’s wicket, but he had a half-century by then. When asked if the Indian team was scared after the first two wickets, Afridi said they were put under a lot of pressure.
Afridi, who will captain the Lahore Qalandars in the upcoming Pakistan Super League, also revealed that he cried after Pakistan lost to Australia in the T20 World Cup semi-finals.
