Shekhar Suman recently urged his son Adhyayan Suman, who has faced professional struggles for 16 years, to draw inspiration from actress Katrina Kaif, who overcame early challenges to become a superstar. Amidst this advice, Shekhar’s old tweets resurfaced, shedding light on the dark side and dirty politics within Bollywood.

In a series of tweets, Shekhar condemned the oppressive practices of the industry, which he claims target and marginalize certain individuals. His comments gained renewed attention following Priyanka Chopra’s revelations in a podcast interview about feeling “cornered” and deciding to leave Bollywood for Hollywood.

“Priyanka Chopra’s sensational revelation has not come as a shocker. It is well known the way the cabal within the film industry functions. It will oppress, suppress and persecute you till you are finished. It happened with SSR,” Shekhar tweeted, referencing the late actor Sushant Singh Rajput, whose death in June 2020 highlighted similar issues within the industry.

Shekhar continued, “It will happen to others too. That’s the way the cookie crumbles in the industry. Take it or leave it. And Priyanka decided to leave. And thank God she did. For now, we have a true-blue global icon representing India in Hollywood. As they say, every cloud has a silver lining.”

In another tweet, Shekhar revealed personal experiences of being blacklisted in Bollywood. “I know of at least 4 people in the industry who have ganged up to have me and Adhyayan removed from many projects. I know it for sure. These ‘gangsters’ have a lot of clout and they are more dangerous than a rattlesnake. But the truth is they can create hurdles but they cannot stop us.”

Priyanka Chopra’s move to Hollywood has since been seen as a significant pivot, leading her to become a prominent global icon. Meanwhile, the issues raised by Shekhar Suman continue to provoke discussions about the functioning and fairness of Bollywood
