The entire image portrays a dynamic but fractured political landscape. Even though Punjab’s farmers and the Centre are still at odds, the SAD has only gained one seat, which was claimed by Harsimrat Kaur Badal, while the BJP has failed to secure any seats.

    Voters in Khadoor Sahib and Faridkot have sent a clear message to the powers that be by electing independent candidates Sarabjeet Singh Khalsa (son of an Indira Gandhi assassin) and Amritpal Singh (the jailed chief of Waris Punjab De), who have made their presence felt as radicals.

    They have stated that they would not brook alleged injustice with the sons of Punjab who have been languishing in jails and that the 1984 anti-Sikh pogrom remains a flashpoint in the absence of closure that can be achieved only by punishing the guilty. It is not a given that the mandate indicates support for separatism.

    Haryana, on the other hand, produced a mixed result, with the incumbent BJP settling for the remaining six LS seats and the Congress regaining some political significance by taking home half of the total, far from the landslide victory of 2019.

    It embodies anti-incumbency sentiment and the BJP’s unwillingness to confront the pressing problems of unemployment and inflation. The BJP won all four of the seats in Himachal Pradesh in a saffron sweep, while the Congress narrowly defeated the BJP for the Chandigarh seat.
