The words have been expunged from parliamentary records. It would be challenging to get them out of people’s minds. Danish Ali of the Bahujan Samaj Party has demanded that Bidhuri be removed from the Lok Sabha for making hateful remarks about him. He is contemplating quitting Parliament over the incident, he has said.

The Opposition has already criticized the Speaker’s severe warning to the BJP MP as being woefully insufficient. There have been reminders that members have been suspended for much smaller transgressions. In response to the South Delhi MP’s use of offensive and improper language, the ruling party has served him with a show-cause notice.
In the House, the defense minister apologized. Will that do? Does that resolve the issue? Simply put, it doesn’t. In the absence of a strong denunciation of Bidhuri’s outburst and strict action against him, any discussion of sabka saath, sabka vikas becomes a hollow, hypocritical slogan. His scream demonstrates how deeply hate has permeated the nation.

Another boundary has been violated, but this time it happened within the democratic temple rather than on the street. There is nothing more unsettling. What message is the legislature conveying? It would be quite disappointing if the BJP chose to ignore the problem. The attempts to draw comparisons with the MP’s shocking remarks and present them as a response to a provocative statement are even more alarming.
