Whether you’re vice-captain or not doesn’t really tell you anything. When he was vice-captain, he was probably the senior member of the team. And his demotion from vice-captaincy means nothing, Rohit told reporters on the eve of the third Test.
Rohit went on to say that players with potential will have plenty of opportunities to prove themselves. There were rumours on social media that India’s practise session indicated that Gill would start in place of KL Rahul in the next game, but Rohit dismissed these rumours, stating that the playing XI will be announced only at the toss tomorrow morning.
In terms of Gill and KL, they both train and practise (for long hours) before any game…
In terms of our 11, we have not made a decision. I’d like to do it at the toss, and I’d prefer to have it announced at that point, Rohit said during the pre-match press conference.

Fans were dissatisfied with Rohit’s diplomatic response and urged him to be more courageous in press conferences and call a spade a spade. If Rohit and Team India’s recent press conferences are any indication, KL Rahul will be left out of the starting XI for the next Test.
