Smriti Irani, a senior BJP leader and Union Minister, has often been a vocal critic of Rahul Gandhi, the Congress leader. Recently, she examined how Gandhi’s political strategy has evolved, particularly in response to shifting political landscapes and challenges faced by the Congress party.

Irani observed that Rahul Gandhi has shifted from a sporadic and often criticized approach to a more consistent and aggressive political presence. His Bharat Jodo Yatra was highlighted as a turning point, where he aimed to reconnect with the grassroots and project himself as a leader focused on uniting the country. This move was seen as a direct counter to the BJP’s narrative, positioning him as a leader concerned about social cohesion and inclusive growth. Irani pointed out that Gandhi’s attempts to engage with a younger demographic and his increased focus on social media have helped him rejuvenate his public image, moving away from the earlier perception of being a reluctant politician.

Smriti Irani also noted Gandhi’s strategic pivot towards issues like unemployment, inflation, and alleged crony capitalism, targeting the Modi government’s economic policies. By frequently raising these issues in Parliament and during public rallies, he has sought to position himself as the voice of the common man. Irani, however, remains skeptical of his strategies, often criticizing them as populist and devoid of substantial policy alternatives.

Moreover, Irani emphasized that Gandhi’s increased international outreach, including his recent visits to the U.S. and Europe, signals his intent to present himself as a global leader. She contended that while these strategies mark a significant shift, it remains to be seen whether they will translate into electoral success for the Congress party. In her view, Gandhi’s evolving approach still needs to overcome organizational weaknesses within his party and connect deeply with India’s diverse voter base to make a lasting impact.
