Bollywood actor and humanitarian Sonu Sood recently revealed that he was offered the position of Chief Minister by several political parties due to his extensive humanitarian work during the COVID-19 pandemic. Sood, who became a national hero during the pandemic by helping migrant workers and others in need, recounted how his efforts led to significant political offers. “I was even offered the position of Chief Minister. When I turned it down, they suggested, ‘Why not Deputy Chief Minister?’ Some of the most influential people in the country were behind these offers, including a seat in the Rajya Sabha. They said, ‘Join us, you don’t need to fight elections, just be with us,’” Sood revealed2.

Despite the allure of these high-profile positions, Sood declined the offers, citing his desire to maintain his independence and continue helping people without any political affiliations. “Politics, for many, is about gaining wealth or power. Neither of those things interest me. I’m already helping people in my own way, without needing to answer to anyone. If I were in politics, I’d be accountable to someone, and that’s something that scares me. I like my freedom to help others without any strings attached,” he explained2.
Sood’s decision to stay out of politics is rooted in his values and his commitment to his humanitarian work. He emphasized that his current role allows him to help people regardless of their caste, language, or religion, without any political constraints. “If it’s about helping people, I’m already doing that. Right now, I don’t need to ask anyone. If I want to help someone, I do it on my own. Tomorrow, I might become accountable to someone else, and that scares me. I fear losing my independence,” Sood said3.
The actor also acknowledged the privileges that come with political positions, such as high security, a residence in Delhi, and a prestigious role with a government letterhead. However, none of these perks appealed to him. “I would get high security, a house in Delhi, and a significant position. Someone told me that I’d have a letterhead with a government stamp, which holds immense power. I said, ‘That sounds great, and I like hearing it. But I’m not ready right now,’” he added3.
Sood did not completely rule out the possibility of entering politics in the future. “Maybe, one day, when I feel I’ve accomplished everything in this field (acting), I’ll think about other paths. But for now, I’m focused on acting and directing, and that’s where my heart lies,” he said2.
On the work front, Sonu Sood is set to make his directorial debut with the film “Fateh,” starring himself, Jacqueline Fernandez, Vijay Raaz, Naseeruddin Shah, and Dibyendu Bhattacharya. The film is scheduled to hit screens on January 10, 2025.
Sood’s journey from being a Bollywood actor to a national hero and a potential political figure is a testament to his dedication to helping others and his unwavering commitment to his values. His refusal to enter politics, despite the numerous offers, underscores his desire to remain true to himself and continue making a difference in people’s lives without any political affiliations.
