Sourav Ganguly advised Virat Kohli to ‘think about it once’ before stepping down as T20 captain.

Ganguly stated that he asked Kohli not to resign as T20 captain because having two white ball leaders was not ideal. However, Kohli disagreed with Ganguly, claiming that the BCCI labeled his decision to step down as progressive when he informed them of it.
Kohli also stated in the pre-departure press conference for the South Africa tour that he was informed of his removal as ODI captain just 90 minutes before the selection meeting for the Test squad.
Chetan Sharma, a Zee News sting operation, claimed that Ganguly told Kohli to ‘think once’ before relinquishing T20I captaincy, but the star Indian batsman may have missed it during the video conference.
Virat Kohli felt he lost the captaincy because of the BCCI President. Ganguly told him to ‘think about it once’ during the selection committee video conference, which had nine people in attendance. I think Kohli didn’t hear it because there were nine other people there, including myself and all the other selectors and BCCI officials, Sharma is heard saying in the video.

He (Virat) stated that Ganguly is doing this primarily to discredit him. He (Virat) tried to tell this in the media… which backfired on him (Virat), Chetan Sharma said in the video.
Former India captain Ganguly stated on December 9, 2021, We (BCCI) had requested Virat not to step down as T20I captain. There was no intention of changing captains. However, he resigned as T20I captain, and the selectors decided not to split limited-overs captaincy, instead opting for a complete separation.
In response to the BCCI’s decision to give Rohit Sharma the T20I and ODI captaincy, Ganguly stated, The bottom line is that there can’t be two white-ball captains. A week later, however, Kohli contradicted Ganguly’s claim during a press conference.
Before quitting the T20I captaincy, I approached the BCCI and explained the reasons behind my decision, he had said. That was well received. There was no hostility or hesitation. I was not told not to give up the T20 captaincy. Rather, it was viewed as a step forward, in the right direction. I communicated at the time that I would like to continue as Test and ODI captain unless the office-bearers and selectors felt that I shouldn’t. My communication with the BCCI was clear, Kohli stated.

Sharma also revealed that players take injections to fake (clear) their fitness tests and that current T20 captain Hardik Pandya visits him frequently to discuss his future.
