Despite his enormous contribution to ensuring India’s food security, however, successive governments at the Centre failed to award him the Bharat Ratna. It’s time to make atonement by presenting him with this honor posthumously.After Dr. Verghese Kurien (90), the Father of the White Revolution, passed away in 2012, the similar demand gathered traction in his instance.

    Kurien revolutionised the dairy industry and led Operation Flood, which helped India become self-sufficient in milk production. He also received the Padma Vibhushan award. Thousands of people filed an internet petition ten years ago asking for the Bharat Ratna for him, but it was unsuccessful. 
    Although the Union Ministry of Cooperation was established by the BJP-led Central Government in 2021 with the intention of bolstering the cooperative movement in the nation, Kurien u2014 the tallest leader of this movement in the dairy sector u2014 has not yet received his due.It is typical for the Bharat Ratna to be bestowed posthumously on a notable individual from our country.

    Since the award’s establishment as a civilian honor in 1954, there have been 14 of these recipients (out of a total of 48). Madan Mohan Malaviya, who founded the Hindu Mahasabha, and Sardar Patel, India’s first home minister, were selected for this honor decades after their death.
