The courageous move by Portugal’s head coach Fernando Santos to start Ramos instead of their all-time leading scorer Cristiano Ronaldo paid off nicely for them. Portugal will play Morocco in their first appearance in the semifinals since 2006; Morocco defeated Spain 3-0 on penalties earlier on Tuesday.
    Ramos gave Portugal the lead in the 17th minute of his first World Cup game with a brilliant shot, and their oldest player Pepe made it 2-0 in the 33rd minute with a strong header.

    But when Ramos was put through on goal by Felix, a lively Portugal assault stormed back. Just when it appeared that Ramos had lost the ball with a clumsy touch, the striker chipped it over the charging Sommer to finish a well-deserved hat-trick.Substitute Then, in stoppage time of the second half, Rafael Leao added the cherry on top with a curling attempt into the far corner. Stranded Sommer’s shoulders dropped as he saw the ball sail past him and into the goal.
