Qatar, a small country in the Middle East, won the right to host the football event this year.
The controversy here is the economics of the event for Qatar. While it cost South Africa $3.6 billion to host the FIFA World Cup, Qatar has spent more than $200 billion just on hosting the event. This sounds ridiculously insane and as though it would incur a massive expenditure on a not-necessary thing. Surprisingly, the revenue generation will give Qatar only $15u201320 billion. However, there were compelling reasons for the Qatari government to bring in thousands of migrant workers to construct the necessary infrastructure.Qatar will have many serious problems after 2-3 decades because the oil and gas supply of the world will decline after 2050, and the Qatari economy is running on the back of the oil and gas revenues. With 60% of the total economyu2019s share, Qatar has to find new ways to run its economy after 2050.Another issue that will stab it in the back is security concerns once the US leaves the country after doing its thing. And lastly, the image of Qatar is very poor in our perception. In addition, Qatar has serious human rights violations and other issues. In order to address these issues, Qatar decided to host FIFA 22.The term used for using sports events to show the world about yourself is sports washing, which is influential propaganda used even by Hitler. We try to paint a more accurate picture of the country through sports. To bring in much-needed foreign investments, Qatar wanted to show how developed the infrastructure of the country is.This was an example of how countries wanted to hold power in geopolitics.
