Among all the tributes, Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma’s caught the attention of fans.
He was a big man with a big impact who always played with heart. A true MI legend @kieron.pollard55, Rohit captioned an Instagram photo of himself with Pollard.
The post quickly went viral on social media, but for the wrong reasons. Fans noted that Rohit did not attend the post-T20 World Cup 2022 press conference and did not post anything about India’s campaign on social media.
But, as soon as the news came out of his franchise’s camp, he was quick to react.
Fans began questioning Rohit about his priorities and chastised the Indian captain for prioritizing his franchise over his country.
Following the heartbreak of the T20 World Cup, Rohit was seen crying alone in the dugout, and there were reports that he also sobbed in the dressing room.
Fans sympathized with him at the time, but his failure to post anything for Team India, and later failure to respond to a development involving his franchise, the Mumbai Indians, irritated some fans.
Rohit has retired from international cricket and will miss white-ball matches in New Zealand and Bangladesh. He will only return for the Bangladesh Test series.
