The 25-year-old is now the overwhelming favourite to win the gold medal at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris thanks to his triumph in Budapest, where he outlasted Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem in a difficult contest. He has tantalisingly avoided the 90-meter mark thus far, but it won’t be long before he does.
Neeraj has the modesty to state that he will never refer to himself as the greatest Indian track and field athlete of all time despite his overflowing trophy cabinet, which is filled with the Asian, Commonwealth, Olympic and world championships.
