In order to facilitate the establishment of a new administration in the state following the BJP’s resounding victory in the state elections, Mr. Patel submitted his resignation on Friday along with that of his entire cabinet.
    By winning a record 156 seats in Gujarat’s 182-member assembly, the BJP won a historic victory.At the Raj Bhavan in Gandhinagar, Mr. Patel presented his resignation to Governor Acharya Devvrat while being accompanied by Gujarat BJP leader C. R. Patil and the party’s top whip, Pankaj Desai.It was merely a formality because the party had already declared Mr. Patel to be the state’s new chief minister before the election.The state BJP chairman had reaffirmed on Thursday that Mr. Patel would retain the position of governor and that his oath-taking ceremony would take place on Monday.

Patel will continue to serve as the interim chief minister until the new administration is formed. Reporters were told by Mr. Desai outside Raj Bhavan.Mr. Paatil notified the governor in a letter that the newly elected MLAs will meet as a parliamentary party on Saturday morning to elect party leaders after the BJP won 156 of the 182 seats.On Saturday at 10 a.m., the MLAs will meet at the party’s Kamalam headquarters in Gandhinagar.
