PM DCR Gunawardena was called by Admiral R Hari Kumar, CNS, of the Indian Navy. discussed the value of robust defence ties and how to improve already-existing ties between the two countries’ armed forces, the Indian delegation said At Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne’s request, Admiral Hari Kumar of the Indian Navy arrived in Colombo on December 12 for a four-day official visit to Sri Lanka.The Indigenous Indian Naval Ship Sahyadri, a multi-role missile frigate of the Indian Navy, made a port call at Colombo to coincide with the visit of the Navy head.Along with participating in Maritime Partnership Exercises, the ship participated in training sessions with the Sri Lankan Navy. You would remember that the Indian Navy and Sri Lankan Navy interacted closely during the yearly exercise SLINEX 21 in March 2022.

The Sri Lanka Navy is receiving specialised training from the Indian Navy, including instruction in maritime technologies.In a previous press statement, the Indian High Commission in Sri Lanka stated that CNS’s visit symbolises the two nations’ close ties and cooperative efforts, with India designating Sri Lanka as a Priority One partner.The visit, according to the high commission, would strengthen the already-existing bilateral maritime relations between the two countries and areas of common security concern and enhancing capacity and capability building initiatives towards ensuring peace in the region would be discussed during the visit.
