While hearing the petition some important and alarming remarks were made by the Supreme Court.  The court pointed out that since 2004, no CEC has completed a six-year tenure. During the 10-year rule of the UPA, there were six CECs and in the eight years of the NDA, there have been eight.
The court pointed that the situation on the ground is alarming and that it wants a CEC like late T N Seshan, known for bringing key electoral reforms. Court also termed late T N seshan as the best man.So the question is what actually was the reform? How does it impacted the electoral system of India? The reforms includes the use and distribution of liquor during election was prohibited, and more importantly for 3 to 2 days before the date of election. Prohibited the use of Governmental Cars and people who work for the government, etc should not be used by the ruling party to conduct political campaigns, others reforms includes postpone or cancel the elections in case of violations of code of conducts, no party poster allowed on the walls of building, restrictions on use of loud speakers. But the revolutionary reforms were two first model code of conduct to be followed by the party, firstly conduct was to be come in force after the official announcement of election dates but after facing backlash from political parties the EC agreed that it would normally be more than 3 weeks prior to official notification of the elections.Second was of power to review election manifesto of the government participating in the elections.Indian elections of the 1970s and 1980s were increasingly factional and violent, and felt the need to revive the model code of conduct. The reforms came after T.N seshan recognised the need of an hour.  As now is the same case, the current situation is demanding perfect commission which make sure an independent Chief Election Commissioner of India heads the Election Commission of India with a fixed tenure, since from 2004 no CEC has completed their tenure.Comment your thoughts below.
