Mumbai, the capital of Maharashtra, is actually eligible to be a UT, according to him, given the diversity of its population and the involvement of residents of other states in the city’s expansion and development.
Added Madhuswamy: In Mumbai, there are about 20% Kannada and Konkani speakers. Before the creation of Maharashtra, Mumbai was never a part of that state. Given this, Mumbai rather than Belagavi is eligible to be a Union Territory.

As far as Karnataka is concerned, there is no dispute. It’s a closed chapter.Hours after the Maharashtra legislature’s two houses passed a resolution to legally pursue the inclusion of 865 Marathi-speaking Karnataka villages, Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai deemed the resolution worthless on Tuesday while the Supreme Court was hearing the case.Bommai added, We reject it, calling Maharashtra’s resolution detrimental to the interests of India’s federal system. The resolution that we passed and Maharashtra’s resolution are different, according to Bommai. In contrast to their resolutions, which asserted claims to various portions of Karnataka, our resolution said that we would not cede any of it.Such decisions are useless when the Supreme Court is hearing the matter (of the boundary issue), he insisted. Since our stance is constitutional, we are certain that the Supreme Court will rule in our favour.Bommai stated that the Karnataka government is prepared to defend the rights of Kannada-speaking citizens in Maharashtra. Reorganisation Act of 1956 limits, according to him, are binding.Siddaramaiah and DK Shivakumar, the head of the state’s Congress, both denounced Maharashtra’s action. Added Siddaramaiah: They (the legislators from Maharashtra) do not have the moral or legal authority to pass such a resolution. Regarding the border dispute, the Mahajan report’s recommendation is definitive.Shivakumar stated to the press, The Congress party and the entire state of Karnataka vehemently oppose their resolution to include our villages in Maharashtra. We don’t want their villages, and we aren’t willing to accept even one from Karnataka.Who do you Think is right? Maharashtra or karnataka? We will glad to know your opinion.
