The ship and its crew will participate in maritime drills and capabilities demonstrations with the Indian Navy over the course of the following five days, according to the statement. According to the United Kingdom’s Integrated Review, there are two Royal Navy ships stationed permanently in the Indo-Pacific. One of those ships is HMS Tamar.

HMSTamar’s deployment represents the U.K.’s Indo-Pacific orientation in action, and its visit is further evidence of the significance we give to our defence and security cooperation with India, said Christina Scott, acting British High Commissioner to India.

To improve marine domain awareness in the region, the U.K. posted its first permanent liaison officer at the Information Fusion Centre for Indian Ocean Region (IFC-IOR) of the Indian Navy in Gurugram in June 2021.
In October 2021, the United Kingdom’s carrier strike group under the command of HMS Queen Elizabeth deployed for the first time to the Indian Ocean Region (IOR), where the two nations conducted Exercise Konkan Shakti involving all three services. The United Kingdom committed to being the European nation with the broadest, most integrated presence in the Indo-Pacific in the Integrated Review, which was published in March 2021.
