The fire has impacted more than 1,000 hectares of forests and is almost reaching the state capital, Nainital. It puts occupied places in danger. The Army, the Air Force, the federal and state disaster management teams, and the government have all declared an emergency and are battling the fire. The state has received reports of over 30 occurrences, and the personnel battling to put out the numerous flames are overworked. For several months now, Uttarakhand has been experiencing frequent forest fires.

The state has experienced devastation caused by the relentless assault on nature, and the forest fires are another symptom of the disintegration of nature. The problem has become more serious as a result of climate change. Forests spanning hundreds of hectares have been impacted. Not all forest fires occur in Uttarakhand. According to Forest Survey of India (FSI) data, the number of fires between April 20 and April 27 this year was three times larger than during the same period last year. They were reported from different parts of the country, including Karnataka. Three forest fires were recorded from the Biligiri Tiger Reserve last week.In the past few years, there have been significant fire events in a number of the state’s forest areas.

The current summer has been hotter than usual, and the previous winter was drier than usual. The air’s and the ground’s natural moisture content has decreased, which permits the fire to grow. These have increased the likelihood of flames in the area. Although natural causes can occasionally be attributed to them, human negligence, misbehaviour, or greed are the main causes.

In Uttarakhand, there have been fatalities and property losses, however the precise toll is still unknown. In the past three days, there have been at least five recorded deaths.Nainital has been covered in a haze that has seriously harmed people’s health, particularly those who have asthma or other lung-related conditions.

The frequent forest fires will have an impact on the state’s economy, which relies heavily on tourism as a source of revenue. An essential component of the climate system are forests. Forest fires are sparked by changes in the climate and weather brought on by human activity, which exacerbates the climate catastrophe. Government policies and legislation harm forests, and forest conservation receives little more than lip service. Summer still has a few weeks left, and extra care should be taken to prevent big first fires.
