Kohli returned to the venue in 2019 and hit a brilliant 72* off 52 deliveries against South Africa. At Mohali, he has 154 runs at a strike rate of 149.51. Australia would undoubtedly be cautious and have plans in place for him.
In the meantime, it will be interesting to see if Kohli starts with captain Rohit Sharma. Rohit confirmed in the pre-match press conference that Kohli is ‘definitely’ a backup opener option. KL Rahul will almost certainly start with Rohit.
India’s lackluster performance at the recently concluded Asia Cup 2022 raised serious concerns, but the selectors have chosen nearly the same squad for the T20 World Cup in Australia. It remains to be seen whether the backing will help instill confidence in the players.
