In a recent interview with MensXP, Bollywood actor Vivek Oberoi opened up about his decision to choose the gangster drama “Shootout at Lokhandwala” over the Shah Rukh Khan-starrer “Om Shanti Om.” Oberoi revealed that he had already invested four to five months in preparation for his role in “Shootout at Lokhandwala,” making it difficult for him to switch gears and take on a different character for “Om Shanti Om.”

Oberoi was the first choice for the role of Arjun Rampal in “Om Shanti Om,” but he turned down several blockbuster films, including “Hum Tum,” “Munna Bhai MBBS,” and “Om Shanti Om.” He explained that the dates for both films clashed, and both roles were negative characters. However, by the time Farah Khan approached him for “Om Shanti Om,” he had already started his research for the character in “Shootout at Lokhandwala.” He had met with cops, read crime files, and visualized the character, making it challenging to switch roles at that point.

Oberoi expressed his admiration for Farah Khan’s film and Shah Rukh Khan’s special appearance in his 2002 film “Saathiya.” He mentioned that if the timings had been different, he would have definitely taken up the role in “Om Shanti Om.” He praised Arjun Rampal’s performance and acknowledged that he would have loved to work with Shah Rukh Khan again.
The actor also reflected on his journey in the industry, mentioning that he had vowed to stay single forever after facing heartbreak. He shared his gratitude for the opportunities he had received and the support he had from his fans and colleagues.
“Shootout at Lokhandwala” became a huge hit, but Oberoi admitted that he sat at home for a year after that. He has since reinvented himself, finding comfort in philanthropy and spending time with his family. He emphasized the importance of family and charity in his life, stating that they are his top priorities.
Oberoi’s recent projects include the web series “Inside Edge” and the Tamil movie “Vivegam,” which have been well-received by audiences. He continues to be selective about his roles, focusing on projects that resonate with him and allow him to showcase his versatility as an actor.
As Oberoi looks back on his career, he remains grateful for the opportunities he has had and the lessons he has learned. He continues to inspire fans with his dedication to his craft and his commitment to making a positive impact on society.
