The Home Minister emphasised tighter collaboration between the Centre and the states but also maintained that the Modi administration aspired to establish an India where not even one young person was addicted to drugs. The Union Government must comprehend that in waging the drug war, various states encounter various difficulties.
For instance, Punjab, a border state, is fighting Pakistani-based drug terrorism. As drones are routinely used for cross-border smuggling of drugs and weapons, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has requested the Centre to make drone registration mandatory. To stop smuggling, cutting-edge anti-drone equipment is essential along the international border with Pakistan.

The Centre should also guarantee a continuous flow of funding to states and UTs so they may modernise their forensic labs and drug rehabilitation facilities. Another crucial step is changing the legislation to clearly distinguish between users and peddlers. Priority should be given to pursuing the big fish among the peddlers. The fact that transnational drug gangs are still functioning in spite of the large seizures in recent years is concerning. For the ambitious anti-drug operation to be successful, the supply chain must be broken.
