Behrendorff has joined the pace attack of the Mumbai Indians, which also includes premier pacers Jasprit Bumrah and Jofra Archer. Former Indian opener Behrendorff backed Behrendorff to complement pace spearheads Bumrah and Archer at the Wankhede in an interview about the Mumbai-based franchise’s auction strategy.
However, Jaffer expressed concern about the availability of England pacer Archer, who missed the entire IPL 2022 season due to injury.
I hope Jofra Archer is fit and running. If he is not available, they are in big trouble. Jasprit Bumrah, Archer, and Jason Behrendorff are three fast bowlers. Akash Madhwal is a promising young player from Uttarakhand. He might get a shot.
They are, however, woefully lacking in the spin department. Hrithik Shokeen did appear in a few games, but he is more of an off-spinner and won’t be able to contribute much if they play at Wankhede. Jaffer told ESPNCricinfo, Kumar Kartikeya got some game time and did well.
Kieron Pollard (INR 6 crore), Daniel Sams (INR 2.6 crore), Jaydev Unadkat (INR 1.3 crore), Mayank Markande (INR 65 lakh), Murugan Ashwin (INR 1.6 crore), Riley Meredith (INR 1 crore), and Tymal Mills (INR 1.5 crore) all left the Mumbai Indians ahead of the IPL 2023 auction. At the mini-auction, the Mumbai Indians are expected to overpay for a frontline spinner.source: cricket unionBut, you know, there’s not much experience there. So they must go big, carefully selecting the spinners; they cannot afford to have too many foreign spinners. Because it does not allow them to breathe.
I’m not sure who the local spinner is because Tim David, Tristan Stubbs, Archer, and Behrendorff are all expected to play. They will be able to use Indian spinners. So that will be a challenge. All of the released players, however, are the usual suspects. There will be no surprises, Jaffer added.
