What the ‘Impact Player’ Regulation Means for Franchises in the IPL 2023.

The law permits each club to bring in a ‘impact player,’ whether they are bowling or batting. The captains will be able to designate four substitute players when submitting the team sheets, one of whom will be called upon later.
The ‘Impact Player’ can do it all from the moment he steps onto the pitch, whether it’s batting, bowling, or fielding. Nevertheless, unless the franchise has fewer than four abroad players in the Playing XI, the Impact Player may only be an Indian player.
According to the BCCI, an overseas player who is one of the four replacements mentioned on the squad sheet can be utilised as a ‘Impact Player.’ If a club introduces an overseas player as an Impact Player in a match, no fifth foreign player can take the field.
It should also be noted that the ‘Impact Player’ might be introduced before the start of an inning or after an over is finished. When it comes to the batting side, ‘Impact Player’ can be called in when a wicket falls or when a batsman decides to retire at any point throughout an over.
The ‘Impact Player,’ on the other hand, cannot serve as team captain. Obviously, we looked at it and wondered how we can maximise it, the possibility for an allrounder to play a huge part, Hesson said.
There was some strategy involved, and it added some suspense because you could introduce the player at any point, whether a batsman gets removed or not, so yeah, I thought it was a wonderful improvement.
I think it’s very well invalidated the Previous rule [identifying the XI after the toss]. It’s essentially become a stand-in rule. In the second innings, if you bat first, you replace a batter with an extra bowler, and vice versa. So you just provide your batting XI or bowling XI after the toss, so there’s no Impact rule, it’s pretty much a straight-up substitution.
