Bangladesh dropped to third place with four points in as many games, while India jumped to first place with six points. Following the game, Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan made a wry remark about India’s defeat.
u201cYes. It’s always been the case when we play India. We’re almost there, but we never cross the finish line. It was a good game of cricket; the crowd and both teams enjoyed it, which is exactly what we wanted. At the end of the day, someone has to win and someone has to lose, Shakib said after the match.
Over the past few years, India and Bangladesh have played several close games, the most notable being the 2016 T20 World Cup group match, in which India won by one run, and the final of the Nidahas Trophy, in which Dinesh Karthik hit a six when India needed five runs off the final ball to win.
Earlier in the game, Shakib had won the toss and invited India to bat first; Virat Kohli shone once more for the side, smashing an unbeaten 64 off 44 deliveries, while KL Rahul also returned to run-scoring form, scoring a much-needed 50 off 32 balls. India scored 184/6 in 20 overs before limiting Bangladesh to 145/6 in 16 overs, with the revised target of 151.
