Speculation has been rife about India potentially hosting the 2024 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, originally awarded to Bangladesh. However, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah has addressed these rumors, clarifying India’s stance on the matter.
Recent reports suggested that Bangladesh might face difficulties in hosting the event due to infrastructural and logistical challenges, prompting the International Cricket Council (ICC) to consider moving the tournament to India. Given India’s proven track record in hosting major cricketing events and its robust infrastructure, many believed the country was a natural alternative.

Jay Shah, in response to these speculations, emphasized that while India is always prepared to host international tournaments, the BCCI has not received any official communication from the ICC regarding a change in the venue for the 2024 Women’s T20 World Cup. He reiterated India’s commitment to supporting the global growth of women’s cricket and expressed confidence in Bangladesh’s ability to successfully host the tournament.

Shah also highlighted India’s ongoing preparations for the 2023 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup, which is set to be a marquee event later this year. He assured that the BCCI remains focused on delivering a world-class tournament and is not currently involved in discussions about hosting the Women’s T20 World Cup.
The ICC, for its part, has yet to make any official statement about a potential shift in the host nation for the Women’s T20 World Cup. As of now, Bangladesh remains the designated host, and preparations are reportedly underway. However, with India’s capability and willingness to step in if needed, cricket fans will be closely watching for any developments regarding the tournament’s venue in the coming months.
