Nitu, who lost in the quarter-finals the previous year, started her campaign in the best possible way, winning the bout in the first round. She used her hook and left cross in the first minute but was unable to connect her jabs.
The boxers then became enraged and punched each other with both hands. Kang soon received the first standing count. With Nitu continuing her assault, the Korean received her second standing count 20 seconds later, with referee Luca Vadilonga of Italy ruling in favour of the Indian, much to the delight of the partisan crowd at the KD Jadhav Indoor Hall.
Preeti had to work hard for her second victory in the tournament after winning her first by RSC decision. In the first few seconds, both boxers tried to keep their distance. Preeti was caught off guard by a Perijoc straight jab, but the Haryana fighter recovered quickly.
After landing two punches on her Romanian opponent, the 2022 Asian Championships bronze medalist led 3-2 at the end of the first round. Both boxers attempted to sidestep each other in the second round as Perijoc resorted to body blows.
Preeti danced around the ring, using her quick feet to avoid the Romanian. She landed some accurate punches but was defeated in round three by a score of 2-3. The bout was declared a draw after the final round. The evaluator and observer sided with the Indian.
