The implant is a coin-sized electrode which goes into the skull of the patient and a pod that is attached to the hair of the person. It has been tested on a human for the very first time and the company is all set to start it’s second trial in a couple months. The pod snapped onto the hair of the patient powers the coin sized electrode and sends tiny electrical pulses to the region in the brain which is affected by depression- the left dosro lateral prefrontal cortex. The device is to be used for 15 minutes a day to send signals to the brain. The external part of the device comes off after the session.
The company intended for the device to be even less invasive, but it’s only their first product. The first patient from St. Louise, Missouri, is scheduled to be tested for a year and the company is set for the second trial run with another patient. The device aims to treat depression with a new approach and leave behind traditional methods like psychiatry and psychology.
