India did their qualification chances no harm by winning the first two Border-Gavaskar Trophy matches, but a loss in the Indore match derailed their progress slightly. Though the damage was minor, India must avoid defeat in the Ahmedabad Test to keep things in their own hands.
How can India make it to the World Test Championship final?
1. A victory over Australia in the fourth Test would automatically qualify India for the World Test Championship final. India leads the standings with a PCT of 60.29, comfortably ahead of Sri Lanka (PCT of 53.33%). With a win, India will be guaranteed a spot in the final, regardless of the outcome of the Sri Lanka-New Zealand Test series.
2. If India only draws the fourth Test, Sri Lanka can usurp them with a 2-0 win over New Zealand. If the islanders do not complete a clean sweep, they will remain third in the WTC points table.
3. If the Indore Test results repeat, India may be eliminated from the WTC final race. However, for such a development to occur, Sri Lanka must win both of their matches against New Zealand.
