Due to the futility of their appeals to the Delhi Police and the sports authorities, they were forced to file a case with the Supreme Court. Finally, in response to the SC’s directive, the Delhi Police on Friday filed two FIRs against Singh, one of which was for allegedly sexually abusing a young wrestler in violation of the POCSO Act. It should put the controversial Singh, a strong BJP MP, in the dock because it is a non-bailable offence.

    Even though Singh has dug in his heels and insists he is innocent, the truth must come out soon because justice is moving forward. Singh had been avoiding punishment for the horrific accusations brought against him. The fight for justice by the wronged players, supported by foreign stars, started in January. They were honoured by the nation for their accomplishments and sure that the authorities would hear their appeal. 
    They even declined the assistance of CPM and Congress political heavyweights. They ended their dharna on January 23 after receiving assurances that their complaints will be looked into by the Indian Olympic Association’s Oversight Committee (OC), which is led by world champion boxer Mary Kom.
    However when the OC report wasn’t made public by the Sports Ministry last week, they were dealt a blow and compelled to step up their complaint. They again sat in a dharna, but this time they applauded the participation of elected officials and other players. They have now made the decision to persist until all of their demands are met.

    They have found that dealing with the sports officials is more challenging than taking on a strong opponent in the akhada. The power of the authorities, however, does not deter the tough athletes. There have frequently been allegations of sexual misconduct by decision-makers in the sports world. The issue can only be fixed by exemplary action against sexual predators.
