Former India cricketer Robin Uthappa has voiced his opinion on the leadership of the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) for the upcoming IPL season, suggesting that Rajat Patidar should be considered as the new captain. Uthappa believes that RCB needs a fresh leader to guide the team to its first IPL title.

RCB has decided not to retain Faf du Plessis, opening up the captaincy role for new possibilities. “RCB should look at Rajat Patidar to take over that role because it seems like you need a new leader after two years,” Uthappa said on JioCinema. “So, you might as well do it now to get ahead of the curve and build a captain for the next three to five years. Rajat is one of those players who can actually play that role for them.”
Patidar has been retained by RCB for INR 11 crore, making him the second player on the retention list after Virat Kohli. His impressive performances in the IPL 2024 season, where he amassed 395 runs in 5 games, have made him a key player for the team. Uthappa believes that Patidar’s leadership could be the missing piece for RCB’s quest for the IPL title.
“Rajat has proven his worth in the middle order and has shown the ability to lead from the front. He played a crucial role in RCB’s comeback in the second half of the season, and I think he has the qualities to be a successful captain,” Uthappa added.
